Democracy has been a key part of the State of Hokoria’s governance since June 2023, and is important in order to ensure that the Government always represents the people. Democratic processes are overseen by His Majesty’s Royal Office and are managed by the wider Royal Government of Hokoria.
Types of democratic process
There are 3 types of democratic process: general elections, snap elections and referendums.
General elections
General elections must be announced at least 5 days before voting begins, with voting taking place over another 5 days. They look to elect a new Council of Representatives and a new Chancellor.
Snap elections
Snap elections must be announced at least 3 days before voting begins, with voting taking place over just 2 days. They look to elect one or more new Provincial Representatives, but not an entirely new Council of Representatives.
Referendums
Referendums must be announced at least 3 days prior to the first day of voting., with voting taking place over five days. They look to allow the nation to approve or deny a motion.
How does voting work?
All voting during democratic processes takes place digitally, with Citizens being sent their ballots electronically. Registration is not required for voting, though Citizens must have their Citizen Tracking ID and registered email address in order to complete the ballot.
