The State of Hokoria is an independent state that borders the United Kingdom, Catalonia and Hong Kong. Despite the little control we have over our territory, we have a growing and vibrant community of Hokorians from around the world.
Pre-March 2023
Previous Hokorias
The first ‘Hokoria’ was founded in December 2022, then simply known as ‘Hokoria’ and now referred to officially as ‘Old Hokoria’. Old Hokoria was a monarchy and the official successor to the Republic of Aweland. After Old Hokoria’s dissolution, the Secret Monarchist State of Hokoria was formed in February 2023.
March 2023 – April 2023
The early State of Hokoria
The State of Hokoria as we know it was founded on the 11th March 2023, by Willow Cizdeizd I as a benevolent dictatorship. Cizdeizd appointed their first Government on the same day, marking the start of the Royal Government of Hokoria (then known as the Central Government of Hokoria).
A lot of the State of Hokoria’s structure was inspired by the Secret Monarchist State of Hokoria, with ‘Central Government Branch Officers (CGBOs)’ and the ‘Head of State (HOS)’ positions.
Hokoria’s foundation didn’t come without conflict, with a Serbian group called ‘Som’ starting the ‘Dogfish Conflicts’ shortly after Hokoria declared independence from the United Kingdom.
April 2023 – August 2023
The developing State of Hokoria
In late April, acting then as the Chancellor, Aaron I announced the Government’s plans for the economy through the ‘Hokorian Mikomi’. The currency and economy was not launched, with economic work beginning much later.
On the 26th June 2023, Iker Rodríguez was elected as the nation’s first democratically appointed Chancellor as the previous executive appointments system was overhauled.
Cizdeizd made a controversial plan titled ‘Proposal A-20-7-23’ in July 2023 which looked at scrapping the nation’s territorial claims in favour of being a ‘digital nation’. The plan was strongly opposed and was not followed through with, in favour of the nation’s territorial claims being somewhat ceremonial considering the Government’s lack of control over them.
September 2023 – November 2023
End of Cizdeizd’s State of Hokoria
The then Head of State, Willow Cizdeizd I, announced their resignation in early September 2023. A week later, Aaron I was appointed as the nation’s second Head of State and starting a new era. The Government became partially dysfunctional following Cizdeizd’s resignation, leading to Aaron I shutting down the nation’s legislative and representative body and stopping all elections.
The period without democracy didn’t last long as Aaron I introduced the Council of Representatives as the nation’s new legislative and representative body.
November 2023 – present
Ross’ State of Hokoria
Aaron I’s State of Hokoria became functional after the nation’s reforms and newfound activity. The Department of Exterior Affairs became one of the Government’s most influential departments, with more treaties and alliances being formed with foreign micronational territories between November 2023 and February 2024 than any other period. The nation also became a member of the Cupertino Alliance.
December 2023 saw the Government change the nation’s flag and wider national identity, as well as the signing of an agreement between Hokoria and Ikerlàndia for Keraland to become a joint-administered Hokorian territory.
On the 14th March 2024, the Government announced that Keraland would no longer be joint administered, and that it would become administered solely by Hokoria. In the same month, the Atlantean Federal Republic and Hokoria signed an agreement that saw Atlantis become a territory of the State of Hokoria.
